- DCGAMES - Graphics Adventure Builder FILE: FUTURES.DOC
-
- Development on a system like this never ends. Every time I think I'm
- getting finished, a whole batch of new ideas comes up. The following
- is my current list of enhancements that I'll be working on. If you have
- any ideas, please feel free to write or send me a message in CompuServe
- [User ID : 72557,336] or write:

- DC Software, P.O.Box 866771, Plano TX 75086-6771
-
- See file BUGFIX.DOC for a list of fixes and enhancements made with each
- new version of the game.
-
- 1.- Encription and packaging to allow authors to distribute their
- adventures and prevent other people from modifying them or cheating
- by using the DC GAMES system to 'peek' into the game,
-
- NOTE: The current version (3.01) packs SAVE files (SAV*.*) to
- minimize the amount of space in use, this will be extended by
- a utility in a future version to pack the original adventure.
-
- 2.- Alternate graphics files: The ability to change the landscaping
- graphics from one world to another would allow a far more complex
- scenario to be created, although the limit of 256 has yet to be
- even approached by anyone.
-
- 3.- Extended, Expanded and Virtual (disk based) memory swapping to make
- sure you don't run out of memory. A very large game with lots of
- graphics, sound, music, pictures and scripts might run out of memory
- due to the fragmentation that occurs by having to load and swap
- these elements. Speed would also improve with a swaping system,
- since all elements could be pre-loaded and just swapped in when
- needed.
-
- 4.- File I/O from within a script to save/retrieve information during
- game play.
-
- 5.- Support for the GIF graphics format. GIF files are a LOT more
- compact than PCX files, so games that use graphics would take
- less space with this format. PCX would still be supported.
-
- 6.- Transparent color for object and character tiles so they are not
- surounded by a black area.
-
- For more information see the introduction in the World Builder User's Guide.
-
- I am collecting public domain or Shareware contributions in the following
- areas that I can make available to other game authors. If you create any
- of the following and wish to share them, give me a call.
-
- 1.- New graphics blocks: I have made available the graphics editor to
- registered users asking only that they share the new graphics they
- create with me so I can add them to the standard product! I need
- all kinds of objects (weapons, armor, etc) and characters.
-
- 2.- Sound Effect and Music library: I am collecting public domain sound
- effects and music files to distribute to registered users for use in
- creating their games. If you have the ability to create high quality
- sound recordings and/or music, your contributions would be very much
- appreciated.
-
- 3.- Graphics Libraries: Another area of contribution would be profesional
- looking graphics of worlds, characters, things, etc. These can be in
- any popular graphics format. I can translate them to PCX format.
-
- I really could go on and on, but I think you get the point. In order
- to make all this and other enhancements to the system, I really need
- to get some kind of positive feedback from the people out there. The
- best support I can get is a registration, since it means you like it
- enough to pay for it. The second best kind of support is your active
- suggestions for enhancements and your reports of any problems you have
- with the system.
-
- I Hope you have as much fun using this system as I had creating it,
- and thank you for supporting the ShareWare concept.
